You have a website, now what?
by Malaney J. Hill
You just spent a small fortune developing your website and now are waiting for some of
those 30 million online internet users to come knocking down your web doorway looking
for your product or service. It doesn't happen and your first reaction is to point to
your webmaster citing that the pages are not programmed correctly. After some thought,
however, you make a logical and most times correct conjecture that your site is not
ranked very high in the major search engines.
Certainly, search engines are a very effective way to market your site and careful attention
should be paid to them and how they rank your site for keywords related to your industry.
But remember, search engines take the responsibility of indexing over 100+ million web pages daily. I shall deal
with search engines in a follow up article. Another
way to make sure that your pages get viewed is to use email.
A mass emailing is the perfect
complement to a website much the way that postal mail is the complement to your company brochure.
Setting up a website without a mailing list is comparable to printing a company brochure and
simply leaving it out on the street to be picked up. Yes, your brochure may happen to catch
the attention of certain users if your lucky, but by using email, you can directly place your
brochure in the hands of the right people. For more information on mass emailings contact Malaney
